Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake and Nelly Share Most No.1 Hits for Male Artists

December 18, 2012, 6:07 am GMT

Mars has brought his 'Locked Out of Heaven' single to the top of the charts and has tied with two of the other leading male artists with most No.1 hits on the Billboard 100.

Grammy-winning singer Bruno Mars is celebrating another joyous feat this week. His single "Locked Out of Heaven" took the No.1 spot last week on the Billboard Hot 100, which gives him a triple tie with Justin Timberlake and Nelly for the most No.1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 by a male artist. The upbeat song is now Mars' fifth Pop song No.1.

The "Just the Way You Are" hitmaker has also released several chart topping tracks from his second studio album "Unorthodox Jukebox". The new set boasts genre-breaking singles, which highlight the 27-year-old singer/songwriter's ability to shift from a very modern pop/dance tune to a classic, mellow 80's inspired ballad. Previous releases from the new set include "Moonshine", where he evoked the sounds of Prince and Michael Jackson, and "When I Was Your Man", a heart-breaking ballad alluding to the style of Elton John and Stevie Wonder.

Mars' "Heaven" brings him to the same level as two other male solo performers on the Billboard Hot 100. Timberlake is no stranger to the top spot, getting there twice during his NSYNC days with such hits like "Bye, Bye, Bye" and "It's Gonna Be Me", both in 2000. Rapper Nelly has also had five chart toppers including the singles "Grillz" featuring Paul Wall and Ali & Gipp, "Hot in Herre" and "Dilemma" in 2002 .

As for Mars, this new achievement already seals his overall top ranking in the solo male performer category. His other No.1 hits were "Just the Way You Are" and "Grenade" from his debut set "Doo - Wops & Hooligans" released in 2010. He also scored his first entry with B.o.B's "Nothin' on You", and he has recently led with the track "It Will Rain", from the "The Twilight Saga's Breaking Dawn Part I" soundtrack.
