Susan Sarandon, Ben Stiller and More Demand Gun Control After School Shooting
Celebrity

Joining the call to stop access to guns are Kourtney Kardashian, John Stamos, Rashida Jones, Dax Shepard, Michelle Branch and Piers Morgan.

AceShowbiz - In the immediate wake of the deadly shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut that killed 26 people most of whom were children, many celebrities urge the U.S. government to take action. The likes of Susan Sarandon and Ben Stiller demanded gun control to prevent another horrific massacre.

Linking her tweet to National Rifle Association, Sarandon tweeted, "How much more suffering & loss will it take before we better regulate the sale of arms in our country? Let @NRA know how you feel." Stiller agreed, "Shocked and saddened by what happened today in Connecticut. We have to stop the access to guns in our country."

Kourtney Kardashian also joined the call for gun control, "If this tragedy doesn't change something in this country regarding guns...I just want to scream and cry. Deeply saddened. Praying." John Stamos wrote, "Soulless coward pulls trigger, children die, officials express regret and then what -we wait for the next shooting? how do we stop this?"

Rashida Jones posted a longer note, "Gun control is our only road to freedom. Freedom from the fear of senselessly losing children. I'm so saddened. WE NEED LAWS NOW...Gun loversare the first to remind you this should be a 'day of mourning'. How about we mourn & make it harder to get guns on the same day?...Thanks, gun lovers, for all your hateful tweets. Good reminder of another endemic nat'l issue:a lack of humanity, civility & accountability."

Mia Farrow tweeted, "Gun control is no longer debatable- it's not a 'conversation'- It's a moral mandate." Dax Shepard wrote, "I love guns. I have several, but I would gladly get rid of them if it would help prevent anything like this from happening again."

Michelle Branch added, "Gun control people!!! My heart is breaking. As a parent this is my worst nightmare." Piers Morgan noted, "This is now President Obama's biggest test - will he have the courage to stand up to the American gun lobby?"

Obama has issued a statement, condemning the shooting. "Our hearts are broken today," President Obama said at the White House while struggling to hold his tears as he said how the young victims "had their entire lives ahead of them: birthdays, graduations, weddings [wipes away tears], kids of their own."

"As a country, we have been through this too many times. Whether it's an elementary school in Newtown or a shopping mall in Oregon or a temple in Wisconsin or a movie theater in Aurora, or a street corner in Chicago, these neighborhoods are our neighborhoods, and these children are our children. And we're going to have to come together and take meaningful action to prevent more tragedies like this, regardless of the politics."

The killings done by a 20-year-old man named Adam Lanza is the second deadly shooting happening in the U.S. in less than a year. Last summer, people were left deeply shaken when at least 11 people were killed in an Aurora massacre during "The Dark Knight Rises" midnight screening and more than 50 people were injured.
