Juan Carlos Fresnadillo Drops Out of Ryan Reynolds' 'Highlander' Reboot

The '28 Weeks Later' helmer reportedly is no longer attached to direct the remake project because he couldn't agree with Summit about their views of the film.

' potential starring vehicle "" has lost its director. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, who was attached to take the directing duty of the reboot project during the last year, has reportedly exited the film.

According to Deadline, Fresnadillo's departure was amicable since he and Summit Entertainment had different views of the film. The studio will now look for another director for the project. Previously, "" helmer Justin Lin was attached to direct it.

Reynolds is reportedly still on board to take the lead role, while Art Marcum and Matt Holloway have provided the script. Neal H. Moritz and Peter Davis are set to serve as the producers.

Fresnadillo nabbed an Academy Award nomination for Best Live Action Short Film in 1996 through his work "Esposados". He was once linked to "" reboot, but dropped out of it to take the directing duty in "Highlander".
