The 'Grey' helmer will direct and write the big screen adaptation of the graphic novel created by Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman.

AceShowbiz - Yet another vampire romance film is currently underway. Warner Bros. Pictures is set to develop a big screen adaptation of "Undying Love" with Joe Carnahan serving as the director, Deadline reports. Not only that, but the helmer of "The Grey" will also work to pen the screenplay.
The story is based on a graphic novel created by Tomm Coker and Daniel Freedman. It follows a former soldier who falls in love with a vampire. However, in order to be with the female vampire, the man must take on her creator. The problem is, that creator is protected by a host of mobsters in the Hong Kong underworld.
"Undying Love" boasts a genre which is far from Carnahan's comfort zone. Still, the director admits that he's attracted to the plot, saying, "I really took to it, and the metric I use is how fast I come up with ideas and an outline, and this brought about a bunch of ideas." He adds, "It is a little out of my wheelhouse, taking place in China with mysticism and swordplay, but there is a lot of potential here."
Carnahan will next direct "Those Who Kill", a pilot project at A&E and Fox 21. Aside from "Undying Love", he hasn't been attached to any other feature film project. Just in time for the Oscar race, the director reportedly urged Open Road to make a push for "The Grey" though most reviewers were focusing on recent releases.
"Call me biased, but I think The Grey is a powerful film, regardless of the fact that it came out in January," so he told Deadline.
