AceShowbiz - Thanksgiving gives favor to "The Twilight Saga's Breaking Dawn Part II", which remains unbeaten although newcomers came rushing in to benefit from the long weekend. The final installment of the "Twilight" series easily won the Thanksgiving weekend box office with an estimated $64 million for a five-day tally.
"Breaking Dawn Part II" has now garnered $226.9 million in domestic box office, slightly ahead of the $220.8 million "Breaking Dawn Part I" took in on the same time frame last November. The latest vampire saga opened to $141.1 million last week.
"Twilight" is not the only leftovers that remain strong in the box office. Taking the second position this weekend is James Bond movie "Skyfall" with around $51.1 million. Meanwhile, the presidential drama "Lincoln" came in third with approximately $34 million.
"Rise of the Guardians", an animated family movie, entered this week in the fourth place with around $32.6 million. For Dreamworks, it is the worst opening for the studio since its 2006 animation "Flushed Away".
Another newcomer, Ang Lee's 3D movie "Life of Pi", embraced the fifth place with an estimated $30.1 million. "Red Dawn" only managed to debut with around $22 million, taking the seventh place below old player "Wreck-It Ralph" (around $23 million).
Rounding up the Top 10 are "Flight" (around $11.3 million), "Silver Linings Playbook" (around $5.9 million) and "Argo" (around $5.1 million) in the eight, ninth and tenth position respectively.
