Showcasing beautiful visuals of the musical drama, the high-definition pictures taken by the famed photographer feature each major character in their gorgeous period costume.

AceShowbiz - Building the anticipation of the release of "Les Miserables", a set of artistic photographs for the Tom Hooper-directed movie have been unveiled via Vogue magazine. Promoting the upcoming high-end musical drama, the magazine uncovers eight stunning images taken by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz which boast the mesmerizing visuals and gorgeous costumes of each major character in the film.

Among the beautiful pictures, there is one that shows Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen in elaborate costumes as wicked couple Madame and Monsieur Thenardier. There is also a high-definition image that features Hugh Jackman's Jean Valjean in a dramatic scene where he rescues young Cosette (Isabelle Allen).

"The stakes were as high as they could possibly be every day," says Jackman of the scene. "And that sort of cauldron of expectation and pressure and excitement was exhilarating." A romantic photograph of Amanda Seyfried and Eddie Redmayne as young lovers Cosette and Marius respectively is also featured in the magazine.

The other images include close-up looks at Anne Hathaway and Russell Crowe as Fantine and Javert respectively. Of her character, Hathaway says, "Fantine is a warrior for love. She's willing to sacrifice everything - her sense of right and wrong, her looks, her very life - for her child."

Meanwhile, director Hooper shares of how he cast Crowe as Valjean's relentless pursuer. "For the story to have any drama, you need to cast a guy who you genuinely feel could go toe to toe with Hugh Jackman and get the better of him," he gushes. "And how lucky am I that he actually had a background in musical theater?"

Jackman himself shares his opinion on Valjean, "He's one of the great literary characters of all time; a real study of the human spirit under the worst adversity possible," while Seyfried says of the film, "The whole thing is really one big love story. There's something about Les Mis that makes everyone see the world differently."

Set against the backdrop of 19th century France, "Les Miserables" tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption - a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit.

It focuses on ex-prisoner Valjean who is hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert after he breaks parole. When Valjen agrees to care for factory worker Fantine's young daughter Cosette, their lives change forever. The movie will be released in the U.S. on December 25.
