Report: Colin Trevorrow Also in the Running to Direct 'Star Wars Episode 7'

Rumor has it, the 'Safety Not Guaranteed' helmer is 'indeed on the list of potential names' that could tackle the highly coveted helming duty for the new 'Star Wars' movie.

The hunt for "Star Wars Episode 7" director is getting even more thrilling every day. While rumors that Matthew Vaughn is in talks for the much-talked-about gig have yet to be confirmed, another report suggesting that indie director Colin Trevorrow is considered for the highly coveted helming job has emerged.

Celebuzz sparks the new rumor that Trevorrow "has had early discussions with Lucasfilm about episode VII." Trevorrow himself is known for his work in "". Words are, Lucasfilm is impressed with Trevorrow's movie. It is also said that the indie filmmaker has met with George Lucas several months ago to discuss the new "Star Wars" project.

So far, no official words have been released to clarify the report, but Celebuzz "can confirm" that Trevorrow is "indeed on the list of potential names that could shepherd a new trilogy of films."

Previously, Collider shared the words that Matthew Vaughn was in the running for the high-profile project. Sources told the site that the "" helmer left his helming gig in "" to have some discussions with Lucasfilm about the prestigious job.

The big question on who is going to replace Lucas as the new helmer for "Star Wars" has become a hot topic since Walt Disney Pictures confirmed the "Episode 7" project was set for a 2015 release. Lucas made it clear that he wouldn't be on hand in choosing the new helmer as stating, "I've turned it over to a wonderful producer, Kathy Kennedy, and I've known her for years. She's [Kennedy] more than capable of taking it and making it better than I did."
