'Wilfred' to Return for Third Season With New Showrunners

"" has been officially renewed for a third season. FX announced on Wednesday, October 31 that the -starring series would return with 13 new episodes. "It was only a matter of time before we picked up the show, we just had to work some things out," said Nick Grad, executive vice president of original programming at FX.

It took quite a long time for the network to announce the show's renewal since it had been negotiating a new deal with original showrunner David Zuckerman. He, eventually, decided to step down from the position, but will remain working on the show as an executive producer.

"David Zuckerman has done an amazing job adapting and reconceiving 'Wilfred' for FX. It was his decision to step down from the showrunner's post, but we're very happy he is going to stay involved with the show," Grad explained.

Reed Agnew and Eli Jorne, who have served as writers and producers on "Wilfred", are now upped to executive producers and showrunners for the upcoming season. "Both we and David have great faith in the ability of Reed and Eli to seamlessly step up and take over the reins. I have no doubt they'll do a great job," said Grad.

Writers are expected to begin working on season 3 later this month for a spring start date. The show is slated to return in June 2013.
