Movie

The 'Chasing Mavericks' star will tackle the lead role in the soccer movie, which is based on the infamous match between the German 'super team' and the starving Ukrainian team during WWII era.

AceShowbiz - Gerard Butler will end up being a soccer player in his next movie. The "Chasing Mavericks" hunk is set to star in a film called "Dynamo", which is based on a novel by Andy Dougan titled "Dynamo: Defending the Honour of Kiev".

According to Deadline, the movie has hired Eli Richbourg as the screenwriter but it is still looking for a right director to serve behind the lens. No other actors aside from Butler have been tapped to join the cast ensemble. The film will begin filming next year in Europe.

Butler is cast as Nikolai Trusevich in the based-on-true-story movie. His character is an all-star goalkeeper who "served as a cornerstone and leader for his team." He later became an inspiration for the entire battered city of Kiev in Ukraine.

The movie is based on the story behind a soccer game that took place between an occupied Ukrainian soccer team and their Nazi captors during the World War II era. To establish Aryan superiority, the Nazi set up a match that pit the starving Ukrainians against a Germany's "super team" to the game that would later be known as "The Death Match".

Aside from "Dynamo", Butler is set to star in "Olympus Has Fallen". The White House-themed action thriller is a rival to Channing Tatum's "White House Down" which currently is also in the production stage. Butler will also be seen starring in star-studded "Movie 43" and lending his voice to animation "How to Train Your Dragon 2".
