'Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day' Goes to Disney
Movie

After the Judith Viorst book adaptation became a free agent, Disney reportedly took interest in it and wants to buy it from Fox.

AceShowbiz - What was Fox's loss is Disney's gain. The adaptation of "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" reportedly is being picked up by Disney after Fox decided to shop it around to other studios due to budget concern.

Deadline reported that 20th Century Fox put it in turnaround last month because it was unhappy with the budget. There was interest from such studios as Universal, Sony, MGM and Walden but Disney was the one who successfully netted the live action project.

If the report is true, then Disney will also get Steve Carell who is already attached to star since April as well as "The Kids Are All Right" writer-director Lisa Cholodenko who wrote the script with Rob Lieber and will direct. Shawn Levy and Dan Levine for 21 Laps along with Lisa Henson will produce.

"Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day" is based on Judith Viorst's book which was published in 1972. Alexander starts a wretched day with the realization that the gum he fell asleep chewing is now hopelessly tangled in his hair, and things get worse from there, to the point he threatens to chuck it all and move to Australia. Carell's Ben is Alexander's dad, a new character introduced to fill out the original story.
