"Homeland" paired up the awards for Outstanding Actor and Actress in a Drama at this year's Emmy Awards. It marked the first Emmy win for Damian Lewis who portrays Nicholas Brody. "I don't really believe in judging art," the British actor said on stage, "but I thought I'd show up just in case." For the coveted prize, he edged out such strong contenders as Bryan Cranston, Steve Buscemi and Jon Hamm.

In Claire Danes' case, her Emmy win was quite predictable since her portrayal of Carrie Mathison had led her to get honored at Golden Globe and other award events earlier this year. It was her second Emmy kudo after snatching the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Miniseries or Movie through her role in "Temple Grandin" in 2011.

Earlier that night, "Homeland" brought home another award for Outstanding Writing in a Drama, thanks to the works of Alex Gansa, Howard Gordon and Gideon Raff.

The winners for Outstanding Supporting Actor and Actress in Drama have been unveiled as well, with Aaron Paul and Maggie Smith snatching the prizes respectively. The "Breaking Bad" actor said in his acceptance speech, "To the rest of the writers, thank you for not killing me off." The Violet Crawley of "Downton Abbey", unfortunately, was unable to attend the ceremony.

"Boardwalk Empire" was another show which already took home a kudo at the event with a win in Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series for Tim Van Patten. Julia Louis-Dreyfus, meanwhile, grabbed the Outstanding Actress in a Comedy for her role as Selina Meyer in the first season of "Veep".

More winners will be announced at the 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards which is underway at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. Jimmy Kimmel is taking the hosting duty.
