John Ingle of 'General Hospital' Passed Away at 84

It's confirmed that the Edward Quartermaine depicter died surrounded by his family after losing battle against cancer.

AceShowbiz - "General Hospital" star John Ingle died at the age of 84. "Father, Husband, Grandan, Great Grandan, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Teacher, Inspirer, Mentor: May You Soar with the Angels. You will forever hold a special place in the deepest corners of our hearts," his daughter Jennifer posted on Facebook.

"You were joy, light and love. Goodness at its very best. For the rest of our days, we will all do our best to continue to make you proud. Rest in peace and continue to spread your generous spirit in the heavens above. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts," she continued. The actor passed away Sunday, September 16.

Television network ABC revealed that John died surrounded by his family in California after losing a courageous battle against cancer. The former English teacher is survived by five daughters and nine grandchildren. His wife of 57 years, Grace-Lynn, passed away from natural causes in February this year.

On "General Hospital", John played ELQ founder Edward Quartermaine who was previously played by David Lewis. He filmed his last episode on August 24 and last appeared in a September 11 episode. "John Ingle achieved great joy from playing the role of Edward Quartermaine," said executive producer Frank Valentini.

The producer continued, "In our brief time working together, I have enjoyed getting to know a great man who embraced life, cherished what he did and, most of all, loved his family." On Twitter, he added, "We love him and will miss him. John will always be a part of the #GH family."

Co-star Bradford Anderson tweeted, "Mr. Ingle, I have such admiration for the way you lived your life. You will be missed sir." Maurice Benard remembered him as "a class act, a professional and the sweetest man you'll ever meet." Chad Duell added, "You were so amazingly sweet and big hearted. The world lost a great man, but heaven gained one."

Nancy Lee Grahn paid tribute in a series of tweets, "I'm holding the most beautiful thoughts of a magnificent man in my heart today. I know for a fact that John Ingle loved his fans. Send him a thought full of love when you think of him and think of him often. John Ingle's big beautiful pix all over the internet news. He'd be pleased that he was such a big beautiful deal!"

Leslie Charleson, who played John's on-screen daughter-in-law Dr. Monica Quartermaine, raved, "He was genuinely interested in people and everything that was going on." She recalled, "His dressing room door was always open, and many of us would find our way there to pick his brain and, in turn, he would lend an ear and offer his wisdom."

The actress added, "Always the professional, after his first surgery he was worried about whether 'Edward' would wear a cap. I for one, will miss that cap, because he wore it well. But above all I will miss him, and especially his wonderful smile."
