AceShowbiz - Cancer survivor Kathy Bates battles the disease once again, going through a double mastectomy. The 64-year-old actress has survived ovarian cancer nine years ago but received the news that she had breast cancer several weeks ago.
"After much consideration, I underwent a double mastectomy," Bates told People. "Luckily, I don't have to undergo radiation or chemo. My family call me Kat because I always land on my feet and thankfully this is no exception."
The Academy Award-winning actress is looking positively to the future, saying "My doctors have assured me I'm going to be around for a long time. I'm looking forward to getting back to work doing what I love to do."
Unlike this time, Bates previously remained quiet about her ovarian cancer. "My doctors at the time, they had to get insurance approval and all of that, so I was very quiet about it. I had to go back to work right away," she told Anderson Cooper earlier this year, adding "If I go through it again, I think I would be a lot more open about it."
Bates is expected to make an appearance at the upcoming Primetime Emmy Awards which is held September 23. She is nominated for two categories.
