Movie

Rumor has it, the Sorcerer Supreme of the Marvel universe could have a 'substantial' role in 'Thor 2' and the studio is eyeing Viggo Mortensen to tackle the part.

AceShowbiz - Could Doctor Strange be featured in "Thor: The Dark World"? Words have run rampant recently that the Sorcerer Supreme of the Marvel universe would indeed appear in the second God of Thunder movie. The report was first shared by The Playlist which heard that Dr. Strange might have "somewhat a substantial role" in the film.

Adding fuel to the swirling rumor was a Marvel Studios-leaking Twitter account called Roger Wardell, the same account which revealed such news as Falcon's involvement in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and Sebastian Stan's casting as the Winter Soldier. Teasing fans that Dr. Strange could be in "Thor 2", Wardell wrote a cryptic note, "Inside News: There's something 'Strange' about Thor: The Dark World."

In another tweet, Wardell also hinted at the possible actor who might tackle the part of Dr. Strange. "Inside News: Marvel is negotiations with Viggo Mortensen for an unspecified role in one of their Phase 2 films," so it's said. It was reported that Joel Edgerton was actually Marvel's first choice for the role but his busy schedule with other projects might hinder him from landing the part.

In another report, Screen Rant noted that some eagle-eyed fans noticed Dr. Strange's magical item, Orb of Agamotto, being placed in Odin's vault in the first "Thor" movie. That somehow gave another clue to the possibility of the the character's appearance in the second film.

Speaking about Dr. Strange, Marvel Studios' exec Jeremy Latcham recently opened up that he'd like to make a standalone film for the character. Speaking to Newsarama, he said, "I'd really like to do a Dr. Strange movie. I'd really like to make a movie out of Luke Cage. There are a bunch of characters who, to me, are on that 'bigger' roster I'd still like to do. I'm not thinking, 'Yeah, I'd really like to make a movie out of The Hood or Hit-Monkey' or something."

The "Dr. Strange" project itself has tapped Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer as the screenwriters. As for "Thor 2", the film will bring back Chris Hemsworth as the titular Asgardian hero with Alan Taylor serving behind the lens. It will be released in the U.S. on November 8, 2013.
