The Billie Joe Armstrong-fronted band make a rocking delivery of 'Let Yourself Go' for their fans at the Staples Center.

AceShowbiz - Green Day performed at the 29th Annual MTV Video Music Awards as promised, just two days after frontman Billie Joe Armstrong was released from hospital. They sang "Let Yourself Go", the single from their trilogy albums "Uno!", "Dos!" and "Tre!".

Earlier in the evening, Billie made quite a statement by saying, "Always speak your mind, always speak the truth, no matter the cost." The statement was in response to Pussy Riot's video sent to MTV to thank the band and the likes of Madonna, Bjork and Red Hot Chili Peppers for their unwavering support.

Another performer was Rihanna. The red-dressed Barbadian beauty took the stage of the Staples Center to officially open the VMAs. The singer, who was also donning a new classy do, was sitting on a throne as the first few beats of her latest song, "Cockiness" featuring A$AP Rocky, played in the background. At some points, the two shared a kiss just after A$AP briefly touched her behind.

Riri, who won the most coveted prize, Video of the Year, that night, followed it up with a live performance of her hit single "We Found Love". She teamed up with DJ Calvin Harris.

A few minutes after Riri's performance, Lady GaGa posted a tweet saying, "What a lovely performance by @Rihanna! I feel like I'm sixteen again watching the VMAS, and then i remember i get to do this too."

Later that night, Riri reportedly got dissed by Nicki Minaj. Trishelle Cannatella of "The Real World" tweeted, "Omg #VMAs inside scoop. Nicki Minaj just told Rihanna to 'sit the f*** down' when she tried to hug her!!! Love it!!!"

Trishelle, who was an audience that night, referred to the moment when Riri was trying to give the "Superbass" rapper a warm hug as the latter was announced to have won the Best Female Video award.
