The new sneak peek gives a look at the walkers that are awaiting Rick and other survivors behind the fence of the prison.

A new teaser for "The Walking Dead" season 3 has been released to tide fans over the series' return. It shows the undead inmates that await Rick and his group in an abandoned prison they're heading to in season 2 finale. Accompanying the scene is Hershel Greene's line, "Christ promised a resurrection of the dead. I just thought he had something different in mind."

Another promo video was previously released, but it didn't show much either. It features Rick who looks afraid while pointing his gun and flashlight to something behind a door. The snippet ends before unveiling what's waiting for him.

The new season of "Walking Dead" will premiere Sunday, October 14 at 9 P.M. on AMC. Michonne (Danai Gurira) and The Governor (David Morrissey) are some new characters to be featured on the horror series, while Daryl's brother Merle Dixon (Michael Rooker) will return after he was left alone on an Atlanta rooftop in season 1.

Showrunner Glen Mazzara once said the prison was not a safe haven. "It's a haunted house, it's scary, it's frightening, and there are parts of the prison that are always terrifying, that are always inaccessible to our group," he explained. "It's not necessarily the blessing that the prison in the comic book turned out to be."

As for the group, he said that everyone would feel a need to be a "valuable part of the team." He went on telling The Hollywood Reporter, "If I don't get this done, if I don't kill that walker, that walker may kill someone else. So everybody bonds together for the good of the group. They all have each other's backs."
