AceShowbiz - Leonardo DiCaprio will not play British genius Alan Turing in "The Imitation Game" after all. The Hollywood Reporter reports that the "J. Edgar" actor has exited the biopic project, but it's still unclear as to why he made the decision.
As a result of Leo's departure, Warner Bros. Pictures, which was originally expected to develop the gig, is said to become less interested to it and decide to let go of the potential high-profile picture. Thus, CAA must now find a new home for the project, which has tapped J Blakeson as the helmer.
Warners acquired "The Imitation Game" based on Graham Moore's Black List spec for seven-figure deal last fall. The story chronicles the up-and-down life story of Turing, an English mathematician, logician, cryptanalyst and computer scientist who was born in 1912.
He was also a key codebreaker for the British during the World War II. However, he was said to have a tormented soul and was criminally prosecuted for his homosexuality. In 1954, he decided to kill himself by eating a cyanide-laced apple.
Following WB's decision to back out of the production, CAA reportedly tries to "repackage" the project with J Blakeson still attached to direct. As for scribe Moore, he still has another Leo-starring film project at Warners called "The Devil in the White City", which is based on Erik Larson's bestselling novel.
