The Batman movie stays atop the chart for the third week in a row, defeating the Colin Farrell-starring reboot film and another newcomer 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days'.

AceShowbiz - For the third week in a row, "The Dark Knight Rises" claims the champion title on the North American box office. Gaining $35.7 million, the Christian Bale-starring movie collects a total domestic cume of $354.6 million since it was released in theaters nationwide on July 20.
Failing to take over the throne from the Batman film, "Total Recall" places second on its debut weekend. The Len Wiseman-directed remake movie takes in $25.5 million, which fulfills Sony Pictures' $25 - $30 million expectation.
Weighing in on the result, Sony president of worldwide distribution Rory Bruer says, "We opened within that realm and I think the film will be very successful on a worldwide basis." He adds, "When you consider the scope of the movie and all the special effects, it was made for a very reasonable price."
Landing on the third place is newcomer "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days". Despite receiving an impressive "A-" CinemaScore, the third installment of the "Wimpy Kid" film franchise only grabs $14.6 million domestically. The first two movies each debuted to $22 million in 2010 and 2011.
20th Century Fox still believes that "Wimpy Kid 3" will perform well in the following week, considering that kids are still out of school. "We're off to a good start and the balance of summer lies ahead," explains Chris Aronson, Fox's president of domestic distribution.
Securing the fourth and fifth places respectively are "Ice Age: Continental Drift" and "The Watch (2012)". The animated movie collects $8.6 million for a total cume of $131.8 million after four weeks of playing nationwide, while the R-rated comedy adds $6.5 million to its $25.3 million domestic gross in its second week.
