The 'Capote' actor says that he's strongly attracted to Plutarch Heavensbee in the 'Hunger Games' sequel, dubbing the new gamemaker 'somebody who's part of the revolution.'

AceShowbiz - Since it was announced that Philip Seymour Hoffman was cast as Plutarch Heavensbee in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire", some fans have been questioning about why such a "deeply serious" Oscar winner like Hoffman was interested to join the blockbuster film franchise. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, the acclaimed actor opened up that he's strongly attracted to Plutarch whom he dubbed a revolutionary.
"I liked the people involved. It's a great group of actors. It's a great environment. And the character was something I was attracted to," he said. "It was just an interesting role. He's somebody who's part of the revolution, but you don't know it. The idea that somebody would be risking themselves in such an extreme way to join something that's that dangerous because he thinks it's the future... that's interesting stuff, you know?"
Plutarch, in the Suzanne Collins book, is described as the new gamemaker after Seneca Crane was executed. He is the leader of the rebellion movement in the Districts, and also the mastermind behind the plan to break the tributes out of the arena.
Though admitting that he loves the character, Hoffman claimed he has never read Collins' books before. After he got cast, the actor quickly learned more about the gamemaker by watching "The Hunger Games" and reading the second book. "It's good. I've read the script, which is true to the book - I kinda ruined it for myself," he said. "But I'm reading it anyway, because I really want to find out everything I need to know about this guy."
According to plan, Hoffman is also expected to reprise his role in "Mockingjay". Commenting on his involvement, Hoffman said he's not so worried about his career after joining one of the biggest movie franchises. "Things always pass over, you know? I don't know what it will be like. But, you know, I'm not playing Katniss. I'm not in high-profile movies in that way too often, so it usually passes," he stated. "I'm 45. I think it will be all right."
In "Catching Fire", Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark will be forced to compete in a special 75th staging of the Hunger Games, where they must fight against past winners. Slated for a November 22, 2013 release in the U.S., the film will bring back Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth as Katniss, Peeta and Gale Hawthorne respectively.
