Confirming that she will make appearance in the season premiere and 'maybe another episode' of the NBC show, the 'Mindy Project' star claims, 'I got so attached to that character.'

AceShowbiz - Mindy Kaling has got a new starring vehicle with "The Mindy Project", but she will spare some time to visit "The Office". At the Television Critics Association's summer press tour, the actress/writer has confirmed that she will return for at least two episodes of the NBC show's season 9.

"I'm headed back for the premiere and maybe another episode," she said during the Monday, July 23 panel to promote her upcoming show. She added about reprising Kelly Kapoor, "I got so attached to that character even though I have, like, one line maybe every episode. It will be fun to see what happens to Kelly."

Talking about her character on "The Mindy Project", Kaling compared the unlucky-in-love doctor to Steve Carell's Michael Scott on "The Office". "This character is not unlike Michael Scott," she claimed. "She wants to just be a better person. It's so much a part of her life. ... She wants to be a better catch, wants to be a better friend."

Though "The Mindy Project" and "The Office" are both workplace comedy, Kaling insisted they would be different. "On 'The Office', so much of the show was disguising your true feelings because it's a mockumentary. In some ways this is a reaction to that," she explained.

Teasing viewers with what to expect from her new show, the 33-year-old revealed that it would include references to the popular medieval series "Game of Thrones". "My writing staff, like they're just obsessed with 'Game of Thrones' references - dragons, stealing eggs of dragon babies," she gushed. "You might see - more than your average show - a lot of 'Game of Thrones' references."

"The Office" season 9 will premiere Thursday, September 20 at 9 P.M. on NBC, while "The Mindy Project" will debut Tuesday, September 25 at 9:30 P.M. on FOX.
