AceShowbiz - After yanking off the trailer of "Gangster Squad" following the Colorado shooting tragedy during the midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises", Warner Bros. Pictures reportedly plans to re-edit the upcoming mob thriller. Moreover, the studio is reportedly considering to push back the release date of the Ryan Gosling-starring film.
According to Reuters, Warners is planning to recut a scene that features a movie-theaters shooting in "Gangster Squad". It is said that the studio's execs are expected to hold a meeting on Monday, July 23 to discuss whether to remove or edit the said shooting scene. During the meeting, they are also expected to decide whether the September 7 release of the film should be changed or not.
Warners has taken some responsive actions after the "Dark Knight Rises" tragedy in Aurora. One of the actions was declining to publish the opening weekend box office report of the Batman movie. The same decision was followed by other studios which agreed to issue the result on Monday.
"The immediate reaction is to go to some dark place when something like this happens. By Monday that's forgotten and the business of releasing a movie takes over," a source told Reuters. Still, it was said that the decision would not last long since "the public's attention span is not that long for such tragedies, and they won't make the connection the further it fades into their memories."
"Gangster Squad" itself follows Sean Penn's Mickey Cohen, who is a ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob. He runs the show in the town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and every wire bet placed west of Chicago.
Cohen runs the dirty businesses with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It's enough to intimidate the bravest, street-hardened cop, except a secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O'Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen's world apart.
While "Gangster Squad" will possibly be pushed back, other upcoming violence-laden films "Total Recall" and "The Bourne Legacy" will stick on their original release dates on August 3 and 10 respectively.
