Jackie Earle Haley Lands Key Role as Maddox in 'RoboCop'

In the upcoming remake movie, Maddox is described as the man who dispenses the military training to Alex Murphy a.k.a RoboCop.

AceShowbiz - Jose Padilha's "RoboCop" has added another actor to its cast ensemble. Deadline reports that Jackie Earle Haley has signed on to star as one of the important characters in the upcoming remake movie.

The "Dark Shadows" actor is set to play Maddox. His character is the one who dispenses the military training to the titular cyborg. Additionally, Deadline notes that "Tropic Thunder" star Jay Baruchel is circling another key role in the film, but the details are still unclear.

Haley will star opposite Joel Kinnaman, who is tapped as RoboCop. Also supporting the film are Gary Oldman as the scientist who creates RoboCop, Samuel L. Jackson as a patriotic media mogul, Abbie Cornish as the protagonist's conflicted wife, and Hugh Laurie as the villainous CEO of OmniCorp.

In "RoboCop," the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front.

Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex's life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.

The sci-fi movie is slated for an August 9, 2013 release in the United States.
