Movie

Set in America post-World War II, the Paul Thomas Anderson-directed movie follows a former vagabond who doubts his mentor and the belief system he has embraced.

AceShowbiz - The first full trailer for "The Master" has been made available for viewing pleasure via Yahoo! Movies. It highlights Joaquin Phoenix's Freddie Sutton, a drifter who is recruited by Philip Seymour Hoffman's Lancaster Dodd as his right-hand man.

A World War II veteran, the charismatic and intellectual Dodd launches a faith-based organization. But as the faith begins to gain a fervent following, the onetime vagabond Sutton finds himself questioning the belief system he has embraced, and his mentor.

While Dodd seemingly has not lost his hope on Sutton, his wife Mary Sue (Amy Adams) thinks they may have to let Sutton go.

Paul Thomas Anderson directs "The Master" in addition to providing the script. Laura Dern, Rami Malek and Jesse Plemons join the cast ensemble of the R-rated movie, which is set to be released in limited U.S. theaters on October 12.

There were speculations that the organization in the story drew inspiration from Scientology, but Hoffman has denied this. "I don't know what you've heard and what script you've read," the actor recently said. "Trust me, it's not about Scientology."
