Facebook-Themed Viral Footage for Will Smith's 'After Earth'
Movie

The promo video tells a story about alien researches throughout history which are shown in a Facebook timeline.

AceShowbiz - After revealing its behind-the-scene footage at Comic-Con on Saturday, July 14, "After Earth" drops a viral video on its official website. The clip shows a story about alien researches throughout the history which are presented in form of Facebook timeline. The setting of the video itself takes place in around 2066.

Previously titled "1000 A.E.", "After Earth" is set 1.000 years into the future. It revolves around a young boy named Kitai who navigates an abandoned and sometimes scary Earth to save himself and his estranged father, General Cypher Raige, after their ship crashes. Will Smith and his real life son Jaden Smith tackle the roles of the father and son respectively.

When attending the "After Earth" Comic-Con panel over the weekend, screenwriter Gary Whitta discussed how he and Will got the idea to make the movie. "It was a one-line idea - a father and son crash-land on Earth after it has been abandoned," he said. "Will was sitting around and watching one of these 'I Shouldn't Be Alive' TV shows ... (and he) wanted to do a very simple movie about a father and son who crash their car."

"The sci-fi angle really amplifies everything that you're doing," the scribe explained further. "We had a lot of fun just sitting around and geeking out about the world-building."

Also starring Zoe Kravitz, Sophie Okonedo and Isabelle Fuhrman, "After Earth" is scheduled to open wide in the U.S. on June 7, 2013. Serving as the director is M. Night Shyamalan.
