'Where did she come from and who was before her and where did that spell come from to create the original vampires' are some questions to be asked in the next chapter, Julie Plec says.

AceShowbiz - Before "True Blood" cast occupied Ballroom 20 at San Diego Convention Center on Saturday, July 15, another gang of vampire-themed series "The Vampire Diaries" invaded the place for their own show's panel. Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley joined executive producers Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson to talk about Elena's transformation and other scoops from the forthcoming season 4.

As Dobrev said Elena's "constantly going to be struggling with herself and how she's never wanted to become that," Plec confirmed that "Damon and Stefan will have to deal with that change." She went on teasing, "It's a lot of really good, deep, emotional and twisted stuff."

Explaining how Stefan and Damon would have roles in Elena's transformation, Somerhalder chimed in, "Elena was a bada** girl, and now she's a bada** vampire girl and can take care of herself. It's going to add a really interesting dynamic between the three of them. She's going to need help from these two, and the three of them are going to learn a lot together in a very short amount of time." The actor gushed, "It's going to be an interesting process."

As for his own character Damon, Somerhalder revealed he's back to his bad boy persona. "He is not a nice guy," the rumored boyfriend of Dobrev insisted.

While Dobrev said it would be challenging to portray Elena and Katherine now that they both are vampires, Katherine is likely not going to show up in the foreseeable future. Plec revealed, "Katherine will not show her little face until Klaus [Joseph Morgan] is no longer a threat."

The writer, however, did not rule out the possibility of Alaric returning in flashback. Saying that the actor portraying the vampire hunter has permission from his other show ("Cult") to appear, Plec teased, "We certainly don't like living in a world without Matt Davis in our family. So it's possible."

Fans will additionally see more of the Original family in the coming season and the show will delve deeper into the origin of Esther, who is dubbed the original witch. "We call her the original witch, but where did she come from and who was before her and where did that spell come from to create the original vampires?" Plec rhetorically asked. "That's actually a big question and something we'll be asking this year."

To be introduced in the fourth season are Kitsune twins from the books. Meredith, who is portrayed by Wesley's real-life wife Torrey DeVitto, will also return in the next chapter as Plec stated, "She's part of the family now."

The new season of "Vampire Diaries" premieres Thursday, October 11 at 8/7c on The CW.

UPDATE (July 16, 2011 05:58 GMT): The "Vampire Diaries" Comic-Con trailer has landed online. Since the cast have just kicked off the filming a week ago, there are only few scenes from the new season, one of which sees Damon and Stefan have an argument over what happened to Elena.
