Tom Cruise's Attorney Denies Scientology Involved in Divorce Settlement

Bert Fields said the church, where Cruise has devoted himself into, has no role in the recent talks, but the lawyer did not say whether it contributed to the divorce.

AceShowbiz - Tom Cruise puts to rest, once and for all, the speculation that his religious belief has anything to do with his divorce settlement. Through his attorney, the actor denied that Scientology played a part in the top-secret talks that took place recently to discuss settlements between him and Katie Holmes.

"Let me be very clear about this. The Church of Scientology played absolutely NO ROLE in the divorce settlement talks at all. Period," Cruise's lawyer Bert Fields told Radar Online. "The mere suggestion that the Church was involved in any element of the talks and ultimate settlement is categorically false. Anyone suggesting otherwise is just wrong."

Fields, however, failed to explain whether Scientology was a factor in Cruise and Holmes' split. It has been long rumored that Holmes is not comfortable with the religion and would not impose it on their only daughter, Suri. "It was something she accepted and put up with for many years because it was important to Tom," a source close to Holmes told E! News.

No one would ever know for sure of the confidential agreement. "There are numerous inaccuracies in the reports regarding the purported contents of the agreement reached between the parties. The agreement is confidential and its terms will not be disclosed," Holmes' rep Jonathan Wolfe confirmed to E! News.
