In addition to tackling the part of Desmond Miles, the David of 'Prometheus' will serve as a co-producer for the big screen take on Ubisoft's hugely popular game franchise.

AceShowbiz - After playing an android in Ridley Scott's "Prometheus", Michael Fassbender will star as an assassin in his next movie. It was Variety which has broken the news that the "Shame" actor has landed a leading role in upcoming game-adapted movie, "Assassin's Creed".

Fassbender will not only tackle the lead role, but he will also serve as a co-producer along with his DMC Film's producing partner Conor McCaughan. "Assassin's Creed", which is based on Ubisoft's most famous game franchise, will be Fassbender and McCaughan's most high-profile project as producers.

Commenting on the "Haywire" thesp's casting, Ubisoft Motion Pictures CEO Julien Baronnet gushed that "Michael Fassbender was our first choice." He added, "Michael is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor."

"Assassin's Creed" follows Desmond Miles, a bartender who is kidnapped by a secret organization with ties to the Knights Templar. He later finds out that he is actually descended from highly trained assassins who battle evil forces throughout history. Miles is eventually sent back in time to retrieve historical artifacts.

Ubisoft execs reportedly plan to develop the movie independently in order to "maintain greater creative control." In fall 2011, Sony Pictures was interested to distribute the film but no deal has been signed yet. Still, Ubisoft noted that "we're open to re-discuss with the key studios once the production package is finalized."
