Rumor has it, producers plan to bring new look to the show and it includes a shakeup in the judge line-up.

AceShowbiz - Adam Lambert may have a new role when he returns to "American Idol" next year. Words on the street are the runner-up of the show's eighth season is being considered as a new judge for the upcoming twelfth installment.

"They have been talking about Adam for over a month," a source tells E! Online. Of why the "For Your Entertainment" hitmaker is wanted on the singing competition that once helped launch his career, the source says, "He personifies the show, and will be a popular choice right from the start."

"He knows what it's like to be on the receiving end of the judges' comments, he has a human touch, and they know they can't go wrong if they bring him on. He would be able to bring a unique perspective to the show," the source continues gushing. "People love him."

According to the source, Adam is eyed to be a new judge since Jennifer Lopez still hasn't committed to the next season. "I don't know if they can afford Jennifer, but they have let it be known that she has a guaranteed spot if she wants it," another source spills. "She appeals to everyone so the big bosses are in favor of keeping her on."

J.Lo's seat is not the only spot which could be left vacant since it is said that the future of Randy Jackson, the only original judge from season 1, and Steven Tyler is "up in the air" as well. "Randy is great, but he's part of the old Idol. They want to keep the soul of the show but have a new look, and for that reason he may well not be part of the new line up," one other source explains.

FOX declines to comment on the report, but executive producer Nigel Lythgoe confirms nothing is set in stone for the new season as of this moment. "We are still in negotiations as we are with everybody. Everything is up in the air," the "So You Think You Can Dance" judge states, admitting that he'd love to be part of the show's season 12. He adds, "There will be changes for sure, but nothing that stops it from what it is, which is an out and out talent show."
