Andy Griffith Died of Heart Attack According to His Death Certificate

The former star of 'The Andy Griffith Show' is also revealed to have suffered from coronary artery disease, hypertension and hyperlipidemia.

AceShowbiz - Two days after Andy Griffith's passing, the cause of his death is brought to light. According to his death certificate, the criminal defense lawyer of "Matlock" suffered a heart attack a week before passing away on Tuesday, July 3 morning about 7 A.M.

It was also noted that the late actor had been dealing for years with coronary artery disease, hypertension and hyperlipidemia, a condition related to high cholesterol. He was laid to rest in a family cemetery on the grounds of his farm on North Carolina's Roanoke Island hours after his death.

Griffith is well known for his role as Sheriff Andy Taylor on "The Andy Griffith Show". His former co-star Ron Howard remembered him on Twitter, "His pursuit of excellence and the joy he took in creating served generations & shaped my life I'm forever gratefulRIP Andy."

Griffith is survived by his wife Cindi Knight and a daughter Dixie, from his previous marriage to Barbara Bray Edwards. He split from Edwards in 1972 after 23 years of marriage. They additionally had a son Sam, who died in 1996. He married Greek actress Solica Cassuto from 1973 to 1981 before tying the knot with Knight in 1983.
