Amid his headline-grabbing divorce news with Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise has been announced as the highest-paid actor according to Forbes. The actor, who turned 50 on Tuesday, July 3, successfully pocketed a walloping $75 million from his movies between May 2011 and May this year.

Cruise enjoyed a massive success after his movie "Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol", which was released last December, took in more than $700 million globally. The "Valkyrie" thesp also got paid well for the upcoming sci-fi film "Oblivion", which is scheduled to hit theaters in April 2013.

Tied for the runner-up place were last year's chart-topper Leonardo DiCaprio along with comedian Adam Sandler with $37 million apiece. DiCaprio's earnings dropped after his film "J. Edgar" underperformed on box office last year. On the other hand, Sandler's income increased thanks to "Jack and Jill".

Securing the fourth spot was Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson with $36 million. The professional wrestler-turned-actor gained a big success from his recent flicks, including "Fast Five" which grossed $626 million worldwide. Rounding up the top five is Ben Stiller, who will next be seen in "The Watch", with $33 million.

Forbes compiles the list by considering multiple factors, including upfront pay, profit participation, residuals, endorsements and advertising work. The site additionally discussed the subjects with manager, agents, lawyers and other in-the-know folks to come up with the site's estimates.
