Andy Griffith Laid to Rest, Fellow Stars Paying Tribute on Twitter

The former star of 'The Andy Griffith Show' is remembered by Larry King, Whoopi Goldberg, Ron Howard, Slash and Brad Paisley among other stars.

AceShowbiz - Less than five hours after it was announced that Andy Griffith passed away, the late actor was buried on Roanoke Island, North Carolina where he resided. "It had been planned for some time," a funeral spokesperson said. "This was the wish of his family."

Cindi Knight, whom Griffith married in 1983, additionally said, "Andy was a person of incredibly strong Christian faith and was prepared for the day he would be called Home to his Lord." He was laid to rest on Tuesday morning, July 3 at about 11:30 A.M. ET.

Fellow stars like Larry King, Whoopi Goldberg and Ron Howard have all tweeted their condolence upon hearing the sad news. King wrote, "Sad to hear news of Andy Griffith's death. He was a terrific actor, a great comedian, an endearing person. He lived a long & fruitful life."

Goldberg posted, "Sad note Andy Griffith has passedaway see the movie, a face in the crowd you will know he wasn't just Mayberry. Condolences to his family." Howard remembered his former co-star, "His pursuit of excellence and the joy he took in creating served generations & shaped my life I'm forever gratefulRIP Andy."

Rob Thomas additionally tweeted, "Just found out the ANDY GRIFFITH passed away. an american treasure. if you can, give a little whistle for him today." Denise Richards mourned the late actor in a short note that read, "We lost a legend...RIP Andy Griffith." Octavia Spencer called the day she heard Griffith's passing as "Sadness abounds!!!"

Andie MacDowell added, "Staying positive and sharing joy ....Andy Griffith will always be remembered for bringing us all peace and wholesome entertainment." Jeff Daniels wrote, "Andy Griffith entertained the world. He improved our lives, and I was so proud to work with him call him a friend. Love you Andy. Go rest."

"American Idol" winners Phillip Phillips and Scotty McCreery also paid tribute to the late entertainer. The former posted, "Cant believe Andy Griffith passed away today. Loved his show. Prayers go out to the family. Use to watch it all the time with my papa." The latter wrote, "We lost a legend today that provided me and my family some great quality time around the tv filled with some good laughs."

Other musicians who remembered "The Andy Griffith Show" star were Nathan Followill and Slash. The Kings of Leon member tweeted, "RIP Andy Griffith. One of my favorite tv actors of all time. I can hear him whistling the theme song all the way to the pearly gates." The former Guns N' Roses star posted, "RIP Andy Griffith. The next step after Mr Rogers. U were loved by all. Iiii]; )."

Hilary Scott of Lady Antebellum also offered condolence, "Heaven gained a talented man today. Mr. Andy Griffith, thanks for giving me amazing memories with my family growing up watching your show!" Fellow country music singer Brad Paisley joined her mourning, "Andy Griffith entertained the world. He improved our lives, and I was so proud to work with him call him a friend. Love you Andy. Go rest."
