The NBC's chief legal analyst sat down with Matt Lauer on Friday, June 29 broadcast to fill in for Curry who made a teary departure announcement a day earlier.

AceShowbiz - Savannah Guthrie is officially named the successor of Ann Curry as "Today" co-host. The announcement was made by NBC News President Steve Capus on Friday, June 29 morning and is effective immediately.
Guthrie sat on Curry's former seat on Friday beside Matt Lauer, discussing such issues as Colorado wildfires, Supreme Court health care decision, as well as Maroon 5 concert. The normal host introduction was omitted from the broadcast but the announcement only came later that day after the show.
The announcement comes just a day after Curry fought back tears to share the news of her departure to viewers. "I will still be a part of the 'Today' show family, but I'll have a new title and a new role, and this is not how I expected to ever leave this couch after 15 years," she said.
Guthrie herself is no stranger to "Today", having co-hosted the program's third hour with Natalie Morales and Al Roker. The current "Today" team will officially start with the new formation on Monday, July 9.
