Aspiring singer Timothy Poe gets the boot in second night of Las Vegas week, while recovering addict Tim Hockenberry, mentalist Eric Dittelman and escape artist Spencer Horsman make it to the top 48.

AceShowbiz - As "America's Got Talent" shrank the number of contestants to 48, Timothy Poe lost his chance to shine on the show. The aspiring singer, who made headlines with his exaggerated claims about his injury during his military service in Afghanistan, was eliminated in the second part of the Las Vegas week.

The 35-year-old country music crooner delivered a cover of George Strait's "The Chair" for his performance that night, but he failed to capture the judges' hearts. "I don't know that he holds up to other singers on this show at all," Howie Mandel said in a conversation with Sharon Osbourne and Howard Stern. Later, the Osbourne matriarch delivered the bad news to Poe, "The fact is, you won't be coming to New York."

It should be noted that the Tuesday, June 26 episode was taped a month ago, before people began questioning the validity of Poe's story. Thus, his elimination was strictly based on his performance.

Also getting axed that night were Goth opera singer Andrew De Leon, father-and-daughter duo Jorge & Alexa Narvarez, and comedian Frank Roche. Meanwhile, securing places as 48 acts who will be going to N.Y. were such talents as old-school-singing Ulysses, mentalist Eric Dittelman, escape artist Spencer Horsman, youthful singers Eric & Olivia, stand-up comedian Tom Cotter and mariachi singer Sebastien.
