Also avoiding clash with 'Total Recal', the Jeremy Renner-starring actioner is now set to open in the U.S. on August 10.

AceShowbiz - Universal Pictures has pushed back the release date of "The Bourne Legacy". The Jeremy Renner-starring actioner is now scheduled to be unleashed in the U.S. on August 10 after previously being set to arrive on August 3, the same day when Sony Pictures' "Total Recall" opens.

In addition to avoiding clash with "Total Recall", it was reported that Universal delays "Bourne Legacy" release schedule because of "The Dark Knight Rises" fear. The Batman film is slated for a July 20 release, two weeks before "Bourne" opens nationwide. With the new release date, there will now be three-week gap between "Bourne" and the superhero film which is believed to be another box office Goliath in 2012 aside from "The Avengers".

"Just as 'The Avengers' demonstrated marketplace sustainability that well outpaced traditional patterns earlier this summer, the industry expects a similar trajectory for 'The Dark Knight Rises'," the studio said in a statement. "Moving one week further from its release will give 'The Bourne Legacy' an even greater opportunity to maximize its opening box-office potential."

"Moving to August 10 will also allow us to extend valuable promotion for the film across all NBCUniversal platforms during the Olympics, which will dominate television and digital audiences beginning July 27," it continued. "We are excited about this new chapter in our Bourne franchise and confident that August 10 is the right date for our film and for our industry as a whole."

"Bourne Legacy" follows a new hero (Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films. Further details about the movie are still unclear, but Renner promised the fourth movie will be "bigger" and "more expansive." Joining him in the cast ensemble are Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Oscar Isaac, Joan Allen and Albert Finney.
