The 2012 'American Idol' champ is looking forward to singing his debut single 'Home' at the festivity commemorating the independence day of the United States.

AceShowbiz - Phillip Phillips is gearing up to return to the stage after going under the knife to fix his kidney problem earlier this month. The 21-year-old winner of "American Idol" eleventh season is set to perform at the fourth of July celebration on the National Mall in Washington D.C.

He's expected to sing his coronation single "Home" at the upcoming gig. "It's probably the biggest thing I've ever done besides 'American Idol'," he told the Associated Press. "I'm just excited to get out there and do my first real live performance since everything that's been going on."

Talking about his recovery from the surgery, Phillip said, "I'm getting better each day, so that's a good thing. I'm just walking around, getting my strength back together. It was tough, you know, those first few days, but I'm getting to where I can pick the guitar back up and write a little bit."

Phillip will be joined at the concert by country singer Josh Turner, "Smash" star Megan Hilty and composer John Williams among others. Featuring the annual fireworks, the show will be broadcast live on PBS and NPR.
