'Homeland' and 'Community' Win Top Honors at 2012 Critics' Choice TV Awards

The Showtime thriller is named the Best Drama Series and helps its lead actress Claire Danes nab an acting prize, while the NBC sitcom grabs the Best Comedy Series title.

AceShowbiz - "Homeland" won big at the second annual Critics' Choice Television Awards held on Monday, June 18. The Golden Globe-winning action thriller show edged out "Breaking Bad", "Downton Abbey", "Game of Thrones", "The Good Wife" and "Mad Men" to snatch the Best Drama Series award. Its lead actress Claire Danes also bagged the Best Actress in a Drama Series kudo.

Although losing to "Homeland" for the Best Drama Series title, "Breaking Bad" did not come home empty handed as its stars Bryan Cranston and Giancarlo Esposito were named Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor respectively in a Drama Series. Meanwhile, "Mad Men" scored a win through Christina Hendricks, who was named Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

The coveted prize in the comedy field went to "Community. The NBC series beat out such strong contenders as "The Big Bang Theory" and "Modern Family". Still, "Modern Family" had a reason to celebrate the night since Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen won Best Supporting Actor and Actress title respectively for their roles on the show.

Also triumphant that night was Louis C.K. who was hailed the Best Actor in a Comedy Series for his role on "Louie. In the female category, Zooey Deschanel of "New Girl" and Amy Poehler of "Parks and Recreation" were tied for the gong.

This year's Critics' Choice Television Awards took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. The annual event, which was presented by the Broadcast Television Journalists Association, also picked five upcoming shows as the Most Exciting New Series, which were "The Following", "The Mindy Project", "Nashville", "The Newsroom" and "Political Animals".
