Bret Easton Ellis Wants to Adapt 'Fifty Shades of Grey', Eyes Ryan Gosling as Christian
Movie

Trying to prove that he's serious about his intention to write 'Fifty' script, the 'American Psycho' scribe tweets, 'Completely committed to adapting Fifty Shades of Grey. This is not a joke.'

AceShowbiz - "Fifty Shades of Grey" has attracted interest from screenwriter Bret Easton Ellis. The "American Psycho" scribe has made a series of statements, confessing that he wants to write the script for the big screen take on E.L. James' steamy novel.

Taking to his Twitter account, Ellis recently wrote, "I'm putting myself out there to write the movie adaptation of 'Fifty Shades of Grey'..." The 48-year-old writer later claimed that he has contacted his agent about joining the project.

"Contacted my agent about adapting 'Fifty Shades of Grey' and have heard nothing back," so he wrote, before adding, "Completely committed to adapting Fifty Shades of Grey. This is not a joke. Christian Grey and Ana: potentially great cinematic characters."

Ellis tried to convince his followers that he's truly interested in adapting the book into the big screen. "Hope E.L. James doesn't think I'm being a prankster. I really want to adapt her novels for the screen. Christian Grey is a writer's dream...," he posted.

Ellis' tweet about circling the "Fifty Shades of Grey" project didn't stop until Sunday, June 10 when he wrote, "Okay. Today the team has been briefed and we will be approaching the studio this week about BEE adapting 'Fifty Shades of Grey' into a film."

Not only did he admit to be interested in serving as the screenwriter, but the "Imperial Bedrooms" author also revealed his wish-list on who should direct and star in "Fifty Shades of Grey". He wrote, "The casting of Christian in 'Fifty Shades of Grey' wouldn't be up to me but I have certain actors in mind. And a particular actress for Ana."

On who he thought was the right director to helm the film, Ellis stated, "I think David Cronenberg is a great idea for directing Fifty Shades of Grey and we worked together on American Psycho in its initial phase." Though some of his tweets have already been deleted, Digital Spy noticed that Ellis also had his eyes on Alexander Skarsgard and Ryan Gosling to play Christian.

"Cronenberg and Alexander Skarsgard is a no-brainer. I've seen Alexander naked so many times at the gym that we both attend: perfect casting," he wrote. "For Fifty Shades of Grey: David Cronenberg, Alexander Skarsgard, Bret Easton Ellis and who as... Anastasia??? I would love it if we lived in a world where Lena Dunham could be Ana in Fifty Shades of Grey but I don't think we do. I think she's hot."

"Tonight's epic fight on 'Girls' between Allison Williams/Lena Dunham convinced me that either one of them could play Ana in Fifty Shades of Grey," he continued. "Thinking more conventionally for Ana in Fifty Shades of Grey: Scarlett Johansson or Kristen Stewart. Alex Pettyfer as Christian: too young?"

Finally, he concluded that Gosling was the perfect actor to tackle the part of Christian Grey. "Aaron Johnson as Christian Grey? In a perfect world it would be Ryan Gosling as Christian Grey...," he tweeted. "David Cronenberg directing. Bret Easton Ellis writing. Ryan Gosling acting. Fifty Shades of Grey team... Shades of Grey."

"Fifty Shades of Grey", which is included in the New York Times bestseller list, centers on a 21-year-old college student Anastasia, who has an S&M relationship with a wealthy entrepreneur named Christian. Their relationship deepens in the book's sequels, "Fifty Shades Darker" and "Fifty Shades Freed".
