'Once' Dominates Winner List of Tony Awards 2012

The John Tiffany-directed musical claims a total of six prizes including the Best Book of a Musical award, while 'Peter and the Starcatcher' trails behind with four gongs.

AceShowbiz - The 2012 Tony Awards has revealed its full winner list on Sunday, June 10. Leading the pack was "Once", which collected a total of six gongs. John Tiffany, who made his Broadway directorial debut through the play, was honored with Best Direction of a Musical prize. Additionally, "Once" won Best Book of a Musical, Best Orchestrations, Best Scenic Design, Best Lighting Design and Best Sound Design.

Trailing behind "Once" was "Peter and the Starcatcher", which grabbed four kudos, including Best Costume Design and Best Sound Design for a Play. Its lead actor Christian Borle was named the Best Actor in a Featured Role in a Play, beating "The Amazing Spider-Man" star Andrew Garfield for his role in "Death of a Salesman".

While Borle won the best actor, "Other Desert Cities" star Judith Light was honored with the Best Actress in a Featured Role in a Play award, which marked her first acting award at Tonys. Meanwhile, Michael McGrath and Judy Kaye were named the Best Actor and Actress in a Musical respectively for their roles in "Nice Work If You Can Get It".

Other winners at this year's Tonys included "Death of a Salesman" and "Newsies" which bagged two prizes each, as well as "Follies" which claimed one kudo. Hugh Jackman and Actors' Equity Association received Special Tony Award, while Emanuel Azenberg was honored with Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre.

This year's Tony Awards ceremony was hosted by Neil Patrick Harris who opened the show by joining the cast of "The Book of Mormon" for their opening number of "Hello!" from the 2011 musical winner. Among the famous faces attending the event were Emma Stone, Matthew Morrison, Ricky Martin, Amanda Seyfried and Sheryl Crow.
