Both 'Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted' and 'Prometheus' show satisfying performances on their debut weekend by bagging $60.3 million and $51 million respectively.

AceShowbiz - "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" has a successful opening on North American box office. Receiving a glowing "A" CinemaScore, the threequel grabs $60.3 million on its debut weekend.
The satisfying result marks the best domestic debut from a DreamWorks film since "Shrek Forever After", which collected $70.8 million in 2010. "Audiences and critics loved this one the most, a real accomplishment," says DreamWorks president of marketing Anne Globe.
Though it fails to claim the champion title on its opening weekend, Ridley Scott's space thriller "Prometheus" also shows a satisfying performance on box office. Landing on the runner-up place, the film takes in $51 million, which is a massive gross for an R-rated title.
20th Century Fox president of domestic distribution Chris Aronson gushes, "It is an out-of-this-world opening. A confluence of great reviews and solid word-of-mouth have conspired to create a global hit." Earning a "B" CinemaScore, "Prometheus" attracts to 64|percent| moviegoers over the age of 25.
Former chart-topper, "Snow White and the Huntsman", falls to number three with $23 million, dropping 58|percent| from last week. After two weeks playing in the U.S. theaters, the twisted fairytale movie collects a total domestic cume of $98.5 million.
"Men in Black 3" falls two positions from last week with $13.8 million. After three weeks playing in cinemas nationwide, the action comedy earns a total domestic cume of $135.5 million. Rounding up the top five is "The Avengers" which adds $11.2 million for a total domestic cume of $571.8 million in its sixth week.
