'Hatfields and McCoys' Sets New Ratings Record for Cable Network

The historical drama show drew 13.9 million viewers when it premiered on Memorial Day, making it the top non-sports telecast in ad-supported cable television history.

AceShowbiz - "Hatfields & McCoys" had a victorious debut on Memorial Day. The first installment of the three-part miniseries pulled in 13.9 million total viewers when it premiered Monday, May 28 on History, making it the No. 1 non-sports telecast in ad-supported cable television history.

Among the audience, 5.8 millions of them were adults 25-54 and 4.8 millions were adults 18-49. When the encore telecast is factored in, the first part of the Kevin Costner-starring show drew a total of 17 million viewers.

"Hatfields & McCoys" is based on a true American story of a legendary family feud-one that spanned decades and nearly launched a war between Kentucky and West Virginia. It chronicles a clash of clans that inspired passion, vengeance, courage, sacrifice, crimes and accusations, while forever transforming the two families and the region they lived in.

Costner takes the role of Devil Anse Hatfield while Paxton stars as Randall McCoy. The second and third parts of the miniseries air on Tuesday, May 29 and Wednesday, May 30 at 9 P.M. EDT.
