Apologizing for his behavior on the red carpet at the Moscow premiere of 'Men in Black 3', Vitalii Sediuk says he simply 'wanted to do something to impress' the Hollywood actor.

AceShowbiz - The Ukranian reporter, who got a backhand slap in the face by Will Smith, is breaking his silence over the incident. During an interview with Hip Hollywood, Vitalii Sediuk expressed his regret over his behavior, saying that he now understands that his attempt to kiss the "Men in Black 3" star on the red carpet "was too much".

Sharing his side of the story over the Moscow premiere incident, Sediuk dished, "I tried to kiss him on the cheek and he moved his face too fast, then it turned out as if I wanted to kiss him on the lips." He went on to note, "Will Smith is a person who I deeply respect as an actor," before adding, "When I met him in Moscow, I wanted to do something to impress him."

Having said that his gesture was a Slavic tradition, Sediuk explained, "I don't kiss every man or women when I see them in the street ... but that time I decided to do that." He continued on to offer his apology as saying, "I'm sorry, Will. It was a splash of emotion," and told the interviewer, "Next time, if I meet him, I'll just shake his hand."

Sediuk found himself on the receiving end of Smith's cheek smack after he planted a smooch near the actor's lips on May 18. Surprised Smith, at the time, reacted by shoving the reporter back and giving him a light slap. As he walked away, he was heard saying, "This joker's lucky I didn't sucker-punch him."

Smith himself has addressed the incident when appearing on "Late Show With David Letterman" on Tuesday, May 22 night. After clarifying that he "didn't beat up a guy," the Oscar nominee recalled the encounter, "He says, 'I'm you're biggest fan, can I have a hug?' So I go to give this joker a hug, and he tries to lean in and kiss me! It's just awkward!"

The producer of "The Karate Kid" continued to share that the reporter's team later tried to offer an apology. "They were like, 'Oh, no, we're sorry, you know. It's just his shtick, you know,' " he told host David Letterman. "I said, 'Well, that's why his ass got shtuck.' "
