Dethroning last week's champ Carrie Underwood, the 'Whataya Want from Me' singer becomes the first openly gay male artist to land atop the chart.

AceShowbiz - Adam Lambert takes over the reign from fellow "American Idol" alumna Carrie Underwood on Billboard Hot 200. The "Better Than I Know Myself" singer's latest album "Trespassing" debuts atop the chart by selling 77,000 copies. It's the smallest sum for a No. 1-scoring album since Adele's "21" sat on the spot with 76,000 back in August 2011.

The Hot 200 win is the first time for the 30-year-old rocker since his first studio album "For Your Entertainment" only peaked at 3 in 2009. The runner-up of "Idol" season 8 also makes music history with this victory by becoming the first openly gay male artist to score the first spot on the chart. Another "Idol" alum Clay Aiken had a similar feat in 2003 with "Measure of a Man", but he had not officially come out as a gay at the time.

Holding firmly at the second place is Adele's "21" which adds 63,000 copies. Underwood's "Blown Away" falls two spots to the third place with 54,000 copies. New entry "Rize of the Fenix" by Tenacious D soars to No. 4 in its first week by selling 49,000 copies, while Norah Jones' "Little Broken Hearts" stays at the fifth place by adding 45,000 copies.

"Now 42" compilation drops from No. 4 to No. 6 with 42,000 copies. Beach House's "Bloom" bows at No. 7 with 41,000, which marks a new chart high for the act. "Glee, the Music: Season Three - The Graduation Album" enters the chart at No. 8 (39,000), Lionel Richie's "Tuskegee" falls from No. 3 to No. 9 (39,000), while One Direction's "Up All Night" slips to No. 10 (34,000).
