After showing off his vocal chops in "Rock of Ages", Tom Cruise could be a gunman in his upcoming movie. The "Mission: Impossible" actor has been sealed to star in MGM's remake of John Sturges' 1960 Western film "The Magnificent Seven".

According to Variety, Cruise has long been interested to take part in the remake project. Though so, sources revealed that the film is still a long way to go and is not included in the actor's immediate gigs. The reboot project itself still hasn't tapped a director yet. MGM is currently starting its search for a screenwriter.

Based on Akira Kurosawa's 1954 classic "Seven Samurai", "The Magnificent Seven" follows a gang of American gunmen hired to protect a small Mexican town from a group of bandits led by Calvera.

Cruise has been courted to return for "Top Gun 2" and to star opposite Beyonce Knowles in Clint Eastwood's "A Star Is Born". Recently, he was reported to be eyed to reunite with Robert Downey Jr. in a buddy-comedy pic called "El Presidente".

Aside from "Rock of Ages", Cruise's next movies are Christopher McQuarrie's novel-adapted thriller "One Shot", Joseph Kosinski's sci-fi pic "Horizons" (formerly known as "Oblivion") and Doug Liman's action movie "We Mortals Are" (formerly known as "Al You Need Is Kill").
