Donna Summer has died on Thursday, May 17 morning in Florida at the age of 63. The singer's family has released a statement confirming her death, stating they are "at peace celebrating her extraordinary life."
"Early this morning, surrounded by family, we lost Donna Summer Sudano, a woman of many gifts, the greatest being her faith. While we grieve her passing, we are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy," her family said through her publicist.
The queen of disco, who was famous for her hits like "I Feel Love" and "Last Dance", reportedly died from lung cancer. TMZ heard from its sources that Donna believed she had the disease after inhaling toxic particles following the 9/11 attack in New York City.
Summer tried to keep the cancer under the radar. Based on the account of someone who saw her two weeks ago, she "didn't seem too bad" and even wanted to finish a new album she had been working on.
Summer is survived by husband Bruce Sudano, their two children and a daughter from her previous marriage.
