AceShowbiz - The CW has announced the fate of its shows, pulling the plug on "Ringer" and "The Secret Circle" after only one season each. Receiving the good news are "Gossip Girl", "Nikita" and rookie comedy "Hart of Dixie", which join the recently renewed "The Vampire Diaries", "Supernatural" and "90210".
"Gossip Girl" will return for a sixth season, which is set to be the last for the show. The final chapter is also shortened to consist of only 11 episodes. "Nikita" will be back for a third installment, while "Hart of Dixie" will return for a sophomore season.
To fill the void in its schedule, The CW has ordered five pilots to series, including "Sex and the City" prequel "The Carrie Diaries" and "Arrow" which centers on DC Comics' superhero character Green Arrow.
Also getting the series orders are "Beauty and the Beast", "Cult" and "First Cut". "Beauty and the Beast" is loosely based on the 1980s CBS series of the same name starring Linda Hamilton. The new show is described as a modern-day romantic love story with a procedural twist.
"Cult" follows a production assistant (Jessica Lucas) and an investigative journalist (Jeff Sefton) who team up to uncover the dark underworld of the TV show "Cult" and its rabid fans. They find the fans might be re-creating crime scenes from the show in their real lives.
As for "First Cut", the medical drama centers on a first-year intern (Mamie Gummer) at Denver Memorial Hospital who discovers that the hospital where she works is no different than high school. Her high school nemesis is also just starting out at Denver Memorial, and their rivalry starts all over again.
