The CW Cancels 'Ringer' and 'Secret Circle', Renews 'Gossip Girl' for Last Season

Also returning for another season are 'Nikita' and 'Hart of Dixie', while 'Arrow' and 'The Carrie Diaries' are among the five pilots ordered to series.

The CW has announced the fate of its shows, pulling the plug on "" and "" after only one season each. Receiving the good news are "", "" and rookie comedy "", which join the recently renewed "", "" and "".

"Gossip Girl" will return for a sixth season, which is set to be the last for the show. The final chapter is also shortened to consist of only 11 episodes. "Nikita" will be back for a third installment, while "Hart of Dixie" will return for a sophomore season.

To fill the void in its schedule, The CW has ordered five pilots to series, including "Sex and the City" prequel "" and "" which centers on DC Comics' superhero character Green Arrow.

Also getting the series orders are "", "" and "First Cut". "Beauty and the Beast" is loosely based on the 1980s CBS series of the same name starring . The new show is described as a modern-day romantic love story with a procedural twist.

"Cult" follows a production assistant () and an investigative journalist (Jeff Sefton) who team up to uncover the dark underworld of the TV show "Cult" and its rabid fans. They find the fans might be re-creating crime scenes from the show in their real lives.

As for "First Cut", the medical drama centers on a first-year intern () at Denver Memorial Hospital who discovers that the hospital where she works is no different than high school. Her high school nemesis is also just starting out at Denver Memorial, and their rivalry starts all over again.
