Set to lead his first MMAs, the British comedian jokes that the event would be bigger than box office champion 'The Avengers'.

AceShowbiz - Russell Brand hops from MTV Video Music Awards to MTV Movie Awards. The British comedian, who launched his career in the U.S. by hosting 2008 and 2009's MTV VMAs, has been selected to host this year's MMAs because he "has that rock 'n' roll aesthetic".

In the Thursday, May 10 press release, Brand said, "This MTV Movie Awards will be more impressive than 'The Avengers,' and you won't have to wait an hour for someone to Hulk out." He will work once again with executive producer Jesse Ignjatovic who produced the VMAs. Ignjatovic said, "He brings the funny but he also has that rock 'n' roll aesthetic."

Stephen Friedman, President of MTV, added, "With his amazing ability to span the full spectrum of comedy from the most high to lowbrow, Russell's smart, unpredictable wit uniquely connects him to our audience. His rock-n-roll sensibility and fearlessness give us the perfect partner with whom to take a leap of faith with as we meld the worlds of movies and music together on one very special night."

The 2012 MTV Movie Awards will be held June 3 at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, Calif. and broadcast live on MTV. "The Hunger Games" and "Bridesmaids" lead the nominations with eight each including Movie of the Year.
