Coming out as a transgender, the lead singer of the punk rock band reveals that she will remain married to wife Heather despite her plan to begin living as Laura Jane Grace.

AceShowbiz - Tom Gabel has decided to come out of the transgender closet. The lead singer of punk rock band Against Me! opened up in the new issue of Rolling Stone about her plans to take hormones and undergo electrolysis treatments to make the transition from male to female and begin living as Laura Jane Grace.

Though she plans to become a woman, the 31-year-old rocker said that she will remain married to wife Heather, with whom she had a baby girl named Evelyn together. "For me, the most terrifying thing about this was how she would accept the news," she shared his fear of coming out. "But she's been super-amazing and understanding."

Being the first major rock star to undergo a gender transformation, the "Thrash Unreal" singer acknowledged, "I'm going to have embarrassing moments, and that won't be fun." She went on to add, "But that's part of what talking to you is about - is hoping people will understand, and hoping they'll be fairly kind."

During the interview, Gabel also talked about her dealing with gender dysphoria for years, and what her revelation means for the future of Against Me!, who will go on tour with The Cult later this May.

Gabel isn't the first celebrity to undergo a gender transformation though. Chaz Bono, who was born as the daughter of Cher and Sonny Bono, underwent female-to-male gender transition in between 2008 and 2010. She later became the first transgender contestant on "Dancing With the Stars".
