Kevin Feige: 'Captain America 2' Will Be 'Most Closely Associated' With 'Avengers'

May 8, 2012, 8:31 am GMT

While 'Iron Man 3' and 'Thor 2' will be 'very singular' movies, Feige says that 'Captain America 2' will unveil the life struggles Steve Rogers has after he's transported to modern days in 'Avengers'.

Hot on the heels of the mega success of "The Avengers", Marvel Studios is gearing up to develop such follow-up movies as "Iron Man 3", "Thor 2" and "Captain America 2". Among the three upcoming films, producer Kevin Feige revealed that the untitled Captain America sequel is the one which will be most affiliated to "Avengers".

Discussing the upcoming projects with CHUD, Feige said, "If we do an Avengers 2 it will be after [Iron Man 3, Thor 2 and Captain America 2]. They have to grow, they have to change." He added, "What they've gone through in this movie will impact their state of mind and where they stand in their next movies."

The Marvel's President of Production explained, "Whatever they go through in those movies is going to affect where we meet them in the next Avengers film. But I think people will be surprised to see, as we go forward - particularly in Iron Man 3 - the notion of how singular the stories can become."

"Iron Man 3 is a very singular Tony Star story. As is Thor 2," he claimed. "Cap, who is stuck in the modern day with no friends or family, there will be some revelations of who is still alive from his days in WWII, but S.H.I.E.L.D. and Nick Fury are kind of his confidants right now. So of all these movies, Captain America 2 will be most closely associated with Avengers."

During the chat, Feige also explained why he didn't include Skrulls in "Avengers" and put Loki as the main villain instead. "Yes, Skrulls have a big connection to Fantastic Four," he said, "so there are some contractual limitations about who can do what when it comes to Skrulls. Though that is not why we didn't do Skrulls. There is already enough going on in this movie."

As for "Captain America 2", the sequel to "Captain America: The First Avenger" will have Steve Rogers continuing his affiliation with Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. and struggling to embrace his role in the modern world. Samuel L. Jackson's Fury is expected to have a big role in the second film.

The second Captain America movie still hasn't tapped its director, but already Walt Disney Pictures plans to release it in the United States on April 4, 2014. Chris Evans is set to reprise his role as the titular superhero.
