Nick Jonas says, 'It's a really liberating feeling to just be able to create and write whatever is on our hearts' now that he and his brothers are no longer tied to the label.

AceShowbiz - After six years of making music in Hollywood Records, Jonas Brothers decide it's time for them to leave the Disney-owned label. The band, who have released four studio albums and sold 17 million copies of them worldwide, have also bought back the rights to their master recordings, merchandising and publishing for an undisclosed amount.

"This was a decision that we made as a group," Nick Jonas tells The Hollywood Reporter. "Naturally, as with any partnership, when you do part ways, there is emotion tied to it. We've been blessed to have a lot of success with Hollywood and with Disney, but speaking on behalf of my brothers and our team, we're all looking forward to this next chapter."

A representative for the label additionally says in statement, "Hollywood Records and Jonas Brothers have amicably ended an amazingly successful partnership after six years." The publicist adds, "We couldn't have asked for better partners or nicer people to work with. We wish Nick, Kevin and Joe all the best in their future endeavors."

The band's manager Johnny Wright chimes in, "This will allow them to chart their own destiny." He continues, "If we wanted to take another deal with a major, it would be a different than what we entered into when we signed with Hollywood. We don't have to become just an artist to the label, we could be a partner or do it ourselves and then come back later on."

Talking about their next project, Nick spills, "I've got a studio set up in my apartment in New York where we can all put down our ideas. It's a really liberating feeling to just be able to create and write whatever is on our hearts." Back in March this year, they posted a video showing them experimenting with new sound in the home studio.

"When we come together, there's something special about it," Nick once gushed. "Obviously, being brothers, it's that connection you can't explain when we do meet up. ... It'll just be a really special thing where it happens naturally, whatever that sound's supposed to be and whoever's supposed to produce it, whether it's pop, rock, dance, whatever. It's gonna be right, and we're taking our time on that."
