'The Avengers' Passes $100 Million Mark Overseas
Movie

This huge number still excludes monster markets like Japan which will screen the movie in August.

"The Avengers" has shown a good number overseas ahead of its North American opening. The Marvel film has posted well over $100 million in the international box office in five days through Sunday, April 29 and thirty nine markets.

According to Deadline, the movie about a band of superheroes has racked up $178.4 million in Central America, Argentina, New Zealand, Iceland and a number of Asian territories like Hong Kong and Taiwan. This record opening is not yet counting big foreign markets like Japan, China and Russia which will screen the movie later this year. If it keeps going on this pace, then the movie could take over the title of this year's biggest international box-office star from "The Hunger Games".

Disney International noted that the biggest opening came from U.K. with $24.7 million. Next is Australia with $19.7 million. In fact, "Avengers" represents the 2nd highest opening weekend of all-time and the highest Disney and Marvel opening weekend ever Down Under.

U.S. theaters will start screening the movie on May 4.
